Fall 2025 Field Work Updates

Groundwater Well Decommissioning and Geotechnical Investigation

Groundwater well decommissioning is underway and is expected to continue until October 15, 2025.

In 2022, wells were placed in strategic locations to collect existing information about the broader Project. Since then, we have refined the route to a smaller area. Wells outside of this area are now being decommissioned.

The decommissioning process will involve removing the well covers, checking and filling the interior of the wells and sealing the holes. Once the wells have been decommissioned the sites will be cleaned up and left to naturally revegetate overtime.

As the Community Access Road progresses through future phases of the project, more wells will be installed, and we will continue to provide updates.

For more information, the Summer / Fall 2025 Field notice, issued in July 2025, can be found here and the Groundwater Well Decommissioning update is available here.

SkyTEM Geophysical Survey  - postponed

SkyTEM Canada Inc. ("SkyTEM") was aiming to conduct a geophysical survey along the proposed route of the Community Access Road this fall.

This work has been postponed and is now expected to take place in summer 2026. An update will be provided once the dates are confirmed.

For more details, please see the SkyTEM notice here.

Stage 2 Archaeological Assessment

The MFFN Community Access Road Archeology Team has been researching potential sites for the Community Access Road since 2019. This summer the team focused on water crossings and aggregate areas to support the application process. Their work recently wrapped up on August 25, 2025, and we are excited to share some of the images captured by the team!

Marten Falls First Nation Powwow

This summer the Marten Falls First Nation Powwow took place from August 29 to 31, 2025. It is a time when Community members come together to reconnect with their traditions, ceremonies, and culture.

Until dusk each evening, the Community was filled with the echos of drums and people dancing and singing in the lovely weather. Marten Falls First Nation generously shared traditional foods with everyone to celebrate and honour Indigenous traditions.

The Latest on the Draft Environmental Assessment / Impact

As part of ongoing consultation and engagement on the Community Access Road, we shared a Community-specific Draft Aboriginal and / or Treaty Rights and Interests: Draft Impact Assessment Report with each of the 23 Communities for review.

The draft reports include information from Indigenous Knowledge Reports, received prior to January 2025, and outline the assessment process for Aboriginal and / or Treaty Rights and Interests as they relate to the Community Access Road.

Communities were given a 90-day review period to provide feedback on their draft report, closing on October 8, 2025, after which the feedback will be incorporated and the reports finalized.
