What's New?

Marten Falls First Nation (MFFN) is proposing an all season community access road that will connect the community to Ontario’s provincial highway network in the south, increasing access to this remote First Nations community and helping foster economic development and improved quality of life for community members.

In April 2018, MFFN signed a voluntary agreement with the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) committing to the application of the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act to the Project. The EA process will determine the preferred route for the access road and identify benefits, potential impacts and impact management strategies to be considered throughout the Project.

In October 2021, the Terms of Reference was approved with amendments and the Notice of Commencement of Environmental Assessment was issued. Find more information about the project status here.

Recently, the Project Team is hosted discussions and consultations to increase awareness of the planned community access road, and to guide preparation of the initial documents needed for the Environmental Assessment process. These documents (i.e., Provincial Terms of Reference and Federal Project Description) describe the approach to be taken during the Environmental Assessment.
